How I Find Inspiration at the DeLand Indie Market

As a creator, I run out of inspiration from time to time.  Engaging with other creators in my community, and being able to admire and appreciate their art has really helped me find inspiration.  I may gain a new perspective for an idea, or enough confidence to put a project, I didn’t know how to approach, in motion.  One of the best ways I found to engage with other creators is to go shopping at my local Indie Market.

What I love about Indie Markets, is that there are no rules or themes, you will find a mix of new, classic, trendy and vintage items.  A fusion of creative energy and hip vibes and a sweet deviation from your ordinary festival.  Don’t forget you can also find the most amazing unique items at super low prices.  I always love a good scavenger hunt, so spending an afternoon hunting for treasures it’s my ideal way to spend an afternoon.  I’m pretty sure the shopping therapy also helps with inspiration!

Orlando has its good share of Indie Markets and Bazaars, but the DeLand Indie Market takes place in the most beautiful setting right in the heart of Downtown Deland at the Artisan Alley.  Part of it is outdoor and part of it is indoors at The Garage inside the Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company.  There are plenty of shops and restaurants there already.

The community in Deland is super friendly and a melting pot of amazing people trying to have a good time.  I live just one town over, but I feel right at home here.  In 2012, DeLand’s native, Courtney Ford Hamil launched the DeLand Indie Market, with the purpose of making DeLand a Central Florida destination.  She sure succeeded in making it a hip and trendy destination.

The DeLand Indie Market is also one of the best curated events I’ve ever seen.  Here, you will find over 70 vendors and a super eclectic mix of products offered; vintage goods, trendy accessories, jewelry makers, artisanal foods, artists, apothecary items, antiques, handmade goods, health and beauty eco-friendly products, re-purposed, re-used and much more.

You will find all kinds of food, street music and of course local craft beer.  It’s free and it happens four times a year.  Whether you make it your next source of inspiration or shopping therapy, I guarantee you will have an awesome time at the DeLand Indie Market!

Next Indie Market: Sunday May 13th, 2018  from 11am-5pm
Location: Downtown Deland Artisan Alley 111 W Georgia Ave, DeLand, FL 32720
